Skin Tone and Hair Color: How to Dress

by Karen

In case you thought I didn’t read your comments, here is part two of Which White is Right for You, Skin Tone and Hair Color! It is my goal in this piece, not to dissuade you, dear readers, from wearing what you feel comfortable and beautiful in. It is my goal to provide you with some theories of fashion and how you might apply them to your own wardrobe. In my personal opinion, white is the new black. Just in time too, with spring here. So, let’s look at a few things.

Skin Tone and Hair Color

Do you know which category you fall into: Cool or Warm? These two are ways to describe your skin tone, eye color, and hair color. By knowing where you fall, you can then determine which colors are more flattering for your complexion and hair color. Cool – Ladies in this category tend to have gray, light blue, green, or hazel eyes. They may be natural blondes or light-to-medium brown hair. And their skin might have rosy pink undertones and may sunburn easier than they like in the summer. Warm – Ladies in the warm category look through brown or green eyes. Their skin is naturally tan or beige or even olive in color. Warms have yellow undertones to their skin color. When in the sun, their skin tans easily. And the hair of the warm category tends to be red, dark brown, or black. How do you know what color undertone you have? This is really interesting. Look at your veins. If you have blue veins your undertone is pink. If they are more of a green color, then your undertone is yellow. But, I know some of you are saying – But, I am dark skinned, or I have really red tones to my skin, how does this cool/warm thing work for me? Well, you are in luck! The same information holds true for you ladies too. If you fall into a neutral category, don’t worry. There are many shades of skin out there and it can be difficult to determine which one is your category, but don’t get too flustered. Like I said this article is to help you realize that some colors are more flattering on certain skin tone and hair colors. It is not set in stone! I, too, am in the neutral category. I have yellow undertones but somewhat read tones to my skin. I tan easily and have dark brown hair. But, I also have blue eyes. In my own personal opinion, I am in the warm category. Thankfully; I love buttery white!

Women who fall in the cool category will be able to enhance their features in the mint, lilac, and powder blue shades of white. These dresses are just a couple of my picks for those in the cool column:
